A tool known as an ultrasonic flow meter measures flow by observing how a fluid flow interacts with an ultrasonic beam (or ultrasonic pulse). It is a volumetric flow meter that requires the liquid stream to contain air bubbles or small particles. As a result, this kind of flow meter is perfect for uses that need low maintenance, low pressure drop, and chemical compatibility.
Through the fluid in the pipe, ultrasonic waves are transferred at an angle. Changes in the ultrasonic waves' transit times are used to determine flow. When moving against the flow of water, ultrasonic waves will move slowly; yet, when moving with the flow, they will move swiftly.
No pressure loss exists.
There is a type that can carry out detection from the piping's surface.
There needs to be a lengthy section of straight pipe.
Large amounts of solids in liquids will result inaccurate due to the refraction.
When there are several air bubbles, rough surface or liner, measurement is impossible.
EX: cement liner, FRP pipe ...etc
